Collection: Part One: Waterlogged
I think I went through about (and this is just a rough estimate) 80 million draft thumbnails before settling on the page layout here. Since this scene is about to get very vertical, I wanted to try some neat things with composition, but whether it actually works out or makes sense is another matter entirely. ¯\(°_o)/¯ Also, quite tired at this point and I think I might have grammared bad in the text? Question mark?
Gonna stop talking now or I’ll just reveal everything that I think is wrong with the page. It’s been called to my attention that this is probably bad practice. GOOD NIGHT.
This was a pretty nice way to ease back into updating – a straightforward four panel page where past-me of two weeks ago had already done all the heavy lifting by sketching out most of the difficult stuff. Cheers, past-me.

Had a bit of a strange weekend where I think I was either asleep or in some sort of sleep-deprived delirium for most of it. I don’t even take drugs, so this seems a bit unfair in terms of work time lost, but oh well. This page also took a while since I had to sink a lot of time into watching parkour videos to make sure this part of the scene didn’t end up looking farcical. Farcical in the same way someone with, say, a manhole cover balanced on their head might look.
Anyway, unfortunately there’s only going to be two updates this week (as there were last week, the astute among you may have noticed) and updates will be a bit spotty for the next two weeks since, as I mentioned in the post last update, I will be entertaining a special visitor from overseas. On the plus side, not a single person has told me off for being a disorganised lazy jerk yet – thanks for being understanding, guys. 🙂
Everyone who was waiting for punching, tough luck. You’ll have to settle for a good ol’ Glasgow kiss, as we say around here. One of the first comic pages I actually drew (way back in 2007 now) was of a guy getting headbutted, so this was sort of interesting to draw as a bit of a nostalgia trip. And this time round it looks way better, which is always a plus.
As a small heads up: I’m trying to build a buffer right now and spectacularly failing (this is Wednesday’s update, posted on Thursday night, herp derp) since in about a week my boyfriend is visiting from New Zealand and dammit, I don’t want to have to spend most of my time drawing while he’s here.
Normally I wouldn’t blether about this sort of thing here, but if it comes down to it I may have to slow down or stop updates for the two weeks he’s in Scotland. I usually prioritise the comic quite highly in my life, but we only get to see each other every six months or so, and some things are just more important. Sorry, guys.

Yeahhh, running poses. Surprisingly difficult to draw~ And so many difficult hand poses! This entire chapter has actually been a really steep learning curve as far as the art goes. It’s not even close to being done and it just keeps getting trickier and trickier. And it’s entirely my own fault too, since I wrote it all. Aaaagh.
Hopefully my intense artistic struggle isn’t too apparent, since I’m learning and trying a lot of stuff on the fly. Also, I think I may have gotten carried away with that stone wall, but oh well. I have to make my own fun.
Got a fun image sent to me by a benevolent, anonymous reader relating to the last page. I think it makes a fair point.
You may recall Adrianna’s excellent poker face from prior instances in the comic. Sorry about the lateness, the page had to sit uncoloured for nearly a day while I dealt with grown up things like resigning my lease, filling in forms, and also occasionally eating. Being an adult sucks.
Another difficult page – I’m beginning to resign myself to the idea that I’ve just made all my pages more difficult by not entirely setting the comic in some sort of blurry grey fog, but oh well.
Also, re: the manhole cover fiasco, I’d like to point out a few major points that I feel were overlooked when the discussion emerged speculating why Rhea’s neck didn’t immediately snap under the weight of it:
1) Rhea does not actually have a neck under that scarf.
2) Rhea is distantly related to Rocky Wrench.
3) Rhea is a teenage mutant ninja turtle.
…but… you know, seriously, I will fix that when I have time. Manhole cover research fail, I totally admit it.
Posting this super fast because it’s five to midnight here and I can potentially still be on time with this, yeahhhh
I think I levelled up my street drawing skill while working on this page. I ended up doing most of the work in pencil – I’ll probably post up that page from my sketchbook as the next vote incentive, because I think it’s sort of interesting and made painting architecture much more straightforward compared to working purely digitally. Ok, page deployed with three minutes to spare, awright.
The delay on Monday’s page had a bit of a knock-on effect on Wednesday’s update, which is probably self-evident considering it’s Thursday now. Still, done! And if I pull an 18 hour work day Friday’s update should be roughly on time too. Ah, comics are tough.
There was a bit of a delay on my end with this page – that is to say, I fell asleep like a numpty yesterday before the page was finished. Sorry! Reckon I needed it though, 16 hour sleeps are usually indicative of something.
