Part 1 – Chapter 14 – Page 2 – Red Moon Rising

Not a good day for Danil. Or anyone in this scene, honestly.

—Sorry for being a wee bit late with this – just to confirm, the update day is still Monday. Unfortunately I got slightly obsessed with laying down perspective grids(and bricks) for each individual panel and it probably doubled the amount of time I usually would spend on a page. On the plus side, can you say vote incentive?

I also spent a bit too much time drawing an entry for the art contest which just concluded at Next Town Over, but let’s not blame Erin for distracting me with her wonderful comic.

Wow, right. Where to begin. Updates have resumed! Red Moon Rising is back to weekly updates for the foreseeable future! I’m feeling a lot better now – the bronchitis, costochondritis, and stomach ulcer all seem to have passed for the most part, so I’m back to work and thrilled for it. I want to thank everyone for being so supportive while I was ill. Everyone who commented, donated, checked up on me on twitter, brought food round to my flat, kept me entertained while I was stuck in bed, all of it. I’m so incredibly grateful. This was a really miserable period of my life, made much less so by that support. And among dozens of well-wishes, not one person complained about missed updates. You people are bloody saints. — So anyway, comics! I’m excited to reveal I’m working on a second comic project with a couple of collaborators and that I’m also taking steps towards seeing RMR published, finally. More news on both of those as things develop. I’m basically just psyched to be drawing and writing again, you have no idea.

No rest for the wicked. Chin up, Danil. —Not quite bang on Monday, but I’ve been having some back problems after a fall, so sitting at the computer’s been a bit tough. Also, apologies for being missing in the comments! I’m basically biting down on my own tongue to avoid blurting spoilers in every reply, so… I’d rather wait for stuff to play out in the comic proper.

I was going to say something typically flippant here, but I didn’t really have the heart. —Sorry this page was super late, it’s been a funny old week and I wanted to do a really good job with this page. Next page will be on Monday, on the dot.

Spear! —Sorry for missing last week’s update, headed up north for a wedding and got stuck in Inverness longer than I expected. Oh, elusive buffer. Some day you shall be mine.

Adrianna’s knocked back, but it looks like she left Danil with more than a graze. —Perspective! Urgh. But I think it turned out in the end. In other news, Webcomics Yeah! did a lovely review of Red Moon Rising. I’m very flattered!

Doof! Danil’s shield makes another appearance. —Ok! Some of you perceptive people may be wondering why last week’s page was numbered 266, while this week we’re up to 288. I did a bit of a reorganising of the first 100 pages of the comic for story clarity, and also added some new pages (maps and covers, not scenes) which has bumped the page count up. I’ve also added all the existing covers to the page count, so it’s more reflective of the actual number of pages. Anyway, a change log if you will: Added Main Cover Map of Ashul Map of Ashul City Chapter 2 Cover Map of Imara Map of Rishara Caan The story’s been condensed down into 14 chapters (from 15) so we’re on chapter 14 now. A lot of the news posts are still wonky (for example, talking about it being page 100 on what is now page 112) and I’ll be fixing those gradually. All filler and fanart has been removed from the archive, and fanart has been moved to the gallery. I’ll be adding covers for chapters 3, 4 and 5 soon, as well as city maps for Dakaia and Seras Daya. There are spots reserved in the archives for those and I’ve renumbered with that in mind, so pages 62, 63, 81, 97 and 158 are currently “missing”. I’ll also be changing the emblems on Ashul armbands to match the new design shown on the Ashul map. Phew. TL;DR: The comic’s better, now featuring more maps! If you were planning on going through the archive, now’s a great time to do it.

Surprise! At least she’s consistent. —I’m going to be rearranging some (read: almost all) of the pages in the archive over the course of the next week, so bear with me if there’s scenes and pages out of order, since unfortunately I have to do this with the site live. It’ll all be sorted by the next update though, and there’ll be some new content in the archive too! I hope you’re excite, because I’m all of the excite. The goal is for the story to read a bit more smoothly and add in some maps. Maps! \o/ Also, I had to go back through the archives to check out Danil’s runes since I haven’t drawn them in ages. Man, the old comic pages look sort of terrible. On the plus side, there’s no way I could have properly drawn a page like this when I started. Feels good, man!
